We are pleased to shine a light on Asaf Ron, the dedicated CEO of Beit Ha’Gefen Arab Jewish Cultural Center, who has been at the helm of this transformative institution for over a decade. Asaf has been part of CALO since 2021 and shared that his experience allowed him to “meet and share, consult and relax in an inspirational time out” with his forum members. With 14 years of dedicated service, Asaf has been instrumental in transforming the center into a vibrant cultural hub that champions pluralism and intercultural dialogue.
A Visionary Leader
Reflecting on his journey, Asaf shared, “I was lucky to be chosen at the tender age of 30 in 2010 for this role. Since then, we went through a process of renewing the center, which was more like a community center, and today is a cultural center promoting shared society.” His leadership has been marked by a commitment to creating a space that embraces all narratives within Israeli society.
Achievements and Challenges
Under Asaf’s guidance. Beit Ha’Gefen has stabilized its operations and established a clear mission. He proudly states, “I believe my biggest accomplishment is stabilizing the center under its new title in all fields: team, infrastructure, working plans, clear ideology (vision & mission), being known and appreciated in the fields of art, culture, and education, and trusted to be pluralistic, a home for all”
However, Asaf acknowledges the challenges that come with this work, “The current reality…holds you back strongly, the fear and ignorance of and about each other,” he explains. Managing a mixed Arab-Jewish team brings its own complexities, as team members are “thoughtful and socially involved with firm ideas and a lot of social criticism.”
A Third Space Exhibition
A significant milestone during Asaf’s tenure was the inauguration of “The Third Space,” a permanent exhibition launched in December 2018. This unique exhibition features installations that reflect and raise pluralistic conversations, furthering the center’s mission to foster dialogue through art.
Looking Ahead
Asaf envisions Beit Ha’Gefen continuing to develop as a center for capacity building and opportunities for encounters. He states, “I am seeing Beit Ha’Gefen continuing to develop as a center for capacity building, meeting opportunities, home of diversity, and all through art and culture.”
